Digital map maker TeleAtlas, who supply TomTom, released the first version of maps that incorporate changes suggested by users via TomTom’s Mapshare and hopes to expand the use of “community feedback” in maps in the future.
The newest TeleAtlas release includes more than 50,000 user changes. The maps will be available for your GPS system this month. Since MapShare began 18 months ago, over 4 million user changes have been submitted to TomTom, which purchased Tele Atlas in June. Only 50,000 of these changes have been incorporated into TeleAtlas maps, because the company focused on street name and road direction changes initially. The program will now be expanded to include other map attributes.
